Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Supervisor to join our team at our laboratory in Elmwood Park, NJ.
Position Summary
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for managing daily laboratory operations, environment, and work processes according to standard operating procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure accessibility to testing personnel at all times testing is performed to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic support.
- Provide day-to-day supervision of personnel performing high complexity testing.
- Be present on-site to provide direct supervision when high complexity testing is performed by certain individuals.
- Maintain monitoring of test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance.
- Resolve technical problems and ensure remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory established performance specifications.
- Prevent patient test results from being reported until corrective action has been taken and the test system is functioning properly.
- Provide orientation and training to all testing personnel.
- Evaluate and document the performance of all testing personnel annually (competency assessment).
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a life science or Medical Technology.
- Six or more years of work experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Lab Technologist or Clinical Lab Scientist.
- One or more years of supervisory experience within a laboratory setting.
- Experience with QC/QA/Regulatory requirements.
- Experience working on the bench in all areas of the core lab (Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, etc.).
- Able to perform CBC differentials.
- Ability to use sound judgment when making decisions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a reference laboratory highly desired.
- ASCP certification is a plus.
- Experience with Test Validation.
