Position Overview
BioPhase is seeking a Research Associate II, Senior Research Associate, or Associate Scientist, Automation to support high-throughput screening and assay development efforts for an innovative biotech company in San Diego. This role will focus on automated screening workflows, assay optimization, and supporting drug discovery screening campaigns in both biochemical and cell-based systems. This is a contract expected to last 6β7 months, with potential extension into 2027 and possible future conversion opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Support high-throughput screening (HTS/uHTS) campaigns using automated screening platforms
- Develop, optimize, and miniaturize biochemical and cell-based assays for screening workflows
- Perform assay work in 384- and 1536-well plate formats
- Operate automated liquid handling systems including Echo acoustic liquid handlers
- Analyze screening data and assist with troubleshooting and assay optimization efforts
- Collaborate cross-functionally within a fast-paced drug discovery environment
Qualifications
- Bachelorβs degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or related field with 3 years of biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience in high-throughput screening, assay development, or automation-focused research environments preferred
- Strong biochemistry background with experience in both biochemical assay development and cell-based assay development
- Experience supporting HTS or ultra-HTS screening campaigns
- Hands-on experience with HTRF assays, assay miniaturization, and automated liquid handling systems
- Experience working with 384- and/or 1536-well plate formats preferred
- Industry experience within biotech or pharmaceutical drug discovery environments strongly preferred
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork skills
