Position Overview:
The Entry-Level Biomedical PM Technician is a traveling field role responsible for performing routine preventive maintenance (PM), basic troubleshooting, and equipment inspections at various customer locations. This is a hands-on, teachable position ideal for individuals beginning their biomedical career who want to gain real-world experience across diverse clinical environments.
Biomedical PM Technician Job Duties:
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on biomedical equipment following OEM procedures and company guidelines
- Conduct basic tests, safety checks, and functional verifications to ensure equipment readiness
- Assist with minor troubleshooting and repairs under supervision
- Maintain equipment aesthetics and ensure devices meet regulatory and safety expectations
- Travel to multiple customer sites weekly, including clinics, hospitals, and specialty facilities
- Communicate professionally with clinical staff regarding service timelines, equipment status, and follow-up needs
- Provide basic equipment-use guidance when appropriate
- Support senior technicians during more complex service calls
- Accurately document all PMs, inspections, and service activities in the company’s customer software
- Follow all manufacturer, state, and federal regulatory requirements (JCAHO, DNV, State Board of Health, etc.)
- Maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information
- Track parts, supplies, and test equipment assigned for field use
- Learn to operate biomedical test equipment such as electrical safety analyzers, infusion pump analyzers, defibrillator analyzers, and multimeters, etc.
- Read and interpret OEM manuals, service bulletins, and technical documentation
- Participate in ongoing training, continuing education, and skill development
- Transport equipment as needed with supervisor approval
- Perform other related duties as assigned
- Esnures preventive maintenance schedules are on track; conducting tests; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting; opening work orders calling for special service; maintaining equipment inventories.
- Maintains biomedical equipment supplies/inventory by checking stock; anticipating needs; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
- Maintains patient confidence by keeping information confidential.
- Maintains a safe and healthy working environment by conducting safety tests; recommending and complying with procedures; training and guiding medical and healthcare personnel; complying with codes.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications; maintaining personal networks.
Accomplishments: Biomedical Technician Skills and Qualifications: Associate degree in biomedical engineering or technology (preferred)

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Must be dependable, and teachable in the inspection of medical equipment. Performs timely routine or planned maintenance, troubleshooting, repair activities on medical equipment as required and recommended by the manufacturer, accreditation agencies, company policies, and procedures, including maintaining aesthetics of the equipment.
- Maintains steady workflow of PMs
- Documents all daily, weekly, monthly maintenance activity/repairs per applicable policies and/or procedures.
REGULATORY COMPLIANCE:
- Maintains compliance with all manufacturer, industry standards, local, state, and federal regulatory requirements such as CMMS, JCAHO, DNV, State Board of Health, and LA State Device Distributor agencies.
- Collaborates with facility staff members to ensure all regulatory requirements are met.
MISCELLANEOUS, OPERATIONAL, and EDUCATIONAL:
- Must comply with company policy and procedures.
- Must demonstrate abilities to operate sophisticated test equipment such as electrical safety analyzer, infusion, defibrillator, and electrosurgical analyzers, pressure meters, DVM, and other test equipment used in the Biomedical field.

- Transports equipment as needed and with supervisor consent.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

- Position involves active work including lifting, bending, walking, standing, and driving for considerable lengths of time.
- The use of dollies or other equipment is mandatory when moving heavy-weight items. May be required to frequently lift items weighing up to 50 lbs. as high as 5 feet or 95 lbs as high as a countertop.
- There is potential exposure to chemicals and infectious materials. The scope of work includes low and high-voltage equipment. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided by the company.
- The work environment is typically a mix of in-shop repairs from customers to site visits to hospitals, clinical environments for repairs, and PMs. These are air temperature controlled with moderate noise levels. May be required to work in various outdoor elements at times.
- Evening and weekend availability may be required when needed. Overnight travel is required but will typically not exceed 2-5 nights weekly as needed based on monthly workload.
EDUCATION AND REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Associate Degree in electronics / biomedical technology, or equivalent preferred.
- Valid Driver's License issued in the employee’s state of residence and a clean driving record required.
