Infusion Nurse - Per Diem

The Infusion Suite Nurse is a licensed healthcare professional that provides specialized care and counseling for patients who require intravenous treatments.  Responsibilities of the Infusion Suite Nurse include administering high tech infusion care to patients, directly monitoring those patients receiving IV infusions, checking infusions to ensure that medications implemented are not counteracting each other or causing a patient harm, collaborating with the physicians regarding patient care, and managing and scheduling infusion therapy for patients.   

 The Infusion Suite Nurse must possess strong communication skills with the ability to impart knowledge to patients/caregivers regarding their infused therapy and diagnosis in a manner tailored to their education and/or anxiety levels.  When called upon, the Infusion Suite Nurse will utilize assessment and patient/nurse education skills assisting the Clinical Nurse Manager by completing Patient Assessments and/or agency nurse/patient education. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current, unrestricted licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse with the ability to practice in the state of New York. 

• Must be proficient in IV insertions for all age groups, PICC line and Port-a-Cath management, performing nursing H&P/assessment 

• Experience providing excellent patient care, including meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. 

• Basic level computer and internet skills (i.e. MS Office, etc).   

• Must be able to communicate with patients in a positive, polite manner and act as a patient advocate. 

• Must have previous knowledge of and skills using IV Pumps. 

• At least two years of nursing experience with an emphasis on IV insertions, SubQ and IM injections and knowledge of oral medication administration skills preferred, but not required. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Execute daily operations of patient case management and maintain accurate, detailed reports and records 

• Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans 

• Provide personalized service to patients 

• Assess the needs of individuals and families and instruct on topics such as health education and disease.  Provide instruction on medication to patients and family members on their drug elected therapies. 

• Assess patient and family’s ability to manage the patient’s post infusion and available resources in the home 

• Communicate with patient’s families and MD’s about patients care in a caring empathetic manner 

• Perform infusions and monitoring of patient’s status throughout entire infusion as well as managed emergency reactions 

• Assist with callbacks to patients with questions 

• Focus on positive patient outcome, collaborate with staff members and document/review comprehensive care plans 

• Review, interpret and implement plan of care, per doctor’s orders 

• Educate patients and family members on plan of care, medication effects, scheduled infusion appointments and medical contact telephone numbers 

• Initiate and monitor intravenous infusions such as peripheral, PICC and Port lines 

• Document data related to patient’s care including assessment results, interventions, medications, patient responses or treatment changes  

• Coordinate healthcare with other health-related personnel according to patients’ needs (i.e.) dietician, social services, etc. 

• Communicate with medical staff and provide feedback to ensure safe and effective medical care

• Ability to set priorities and assume responsibilities of the Infusion Suite Nurse.
