Position Overview
BioMatrix is seeking a commercially driven, relationship-oriented Senior Key Account Manager to help build and lead our pet food commercial expansion. This is a high-impact role for a candidate who can open doors, develop strategic customer relationships, and convert opportunities into long-term business.
This position is a priority hire as BioMatrix builds its pet food sales organization. The company currently has strong operational and customer support resources in place, but needs a dedicated commercial leader focused on new business development, strategic account growth, and ingredient adoption across the pet food sector.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong network within the pet food industry, proven success selling ingredients into major accounts, and the ability to work closely with customer R&D, procurement, and business teams to move opportunities from technical evaluation to commercial launch.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop and execute a commercial growth plan for BioMatrix’s pet food ingredient business in North America
· Identify, engage, and grow relationships with key pet food manufacturers, brand owners, and co-manufacturers
· Lead account development efforts with both large strategic accounts and high-potential mid-sized or emerging brands
· Drive new business development and ingredient adoption, not just account maintenance
· Manage the full commercial process from initial contact through qualification, technical evaluation, trial coordination, pricing discussions, and commercial conversion
· Build relationships with decision-makers across procurement, formulation/R&D, technical services, innovation, and operations
· Partner internally with leadership, operations, regulatory, and technical teams to ensure strong customer support and execution
· Develop account plans, sales pipeline reporting, and commercial forecasts
· Negotiate annual supply programs, long-term commercial agreements, and strategic growth initiatives
· Represent the company at industry trade shows, customer meetings, and key commercial events
· Provide market intelligence on customer needs, competitive activity, ingredient trends, and new business opportunities
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are looking for a true commercial hunter with strong account management capability. This person must be able to generate new opportunities while also building trusted long-term customer relationships.
Required Qualifications
· 10 years of sales, key account management, or business development experience in the pet food ingredient industry
· Proven track record of selling ingredients, functional additives, nutritional solutions, or specialty products into pet food manufacturers
· Existing relationships with major pet food companies, national/regional brands, and/or contract manufacturers
· Demonstrated success in winning new business and growing strategic accounts
· Strong understanding of how ingredient adoption decisions are made within pet food organizations
· Experience interacting with procurement, R&D, formulation, technical, and operations teams
· Ability to translate technical product value into clear commercial benefits
· Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
· Comfortable working in a growth-stage environment and helping build commercial structure
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with specialty ingredients such as functional additives, digestive health ingredients, coating technologies, fats/oils, palatability-related ingredients, fiber/prebiotic ingredients, or other science-based pet food solutions
· Experience selling to major industry players such as Nestle Purina, Mars, Hill’s, Diamond, Blue Buffalo, General Mills, Post/Perfection Pet Foods, or similar accounts
· Familiarity with pilot trials, technical evaluations, and commercialization processes in pet food
· Experience working in a smaller or entrepreneurial business where flexibility and ownership are important
What Success Looks Like
In the first 12 months, this person should be able to:
· Build a credible pipeline of strategic pet food opportunities
· Open doors with qualified target customers
· Advance ingredient evaluations, trials, and commercial discussions
· Convert selected opportunities into meaningful revenue
· Establish BioMatrix as a credible ingredient partner in the pet food market
Compensation
Competitive base salary plus performance-based incentive/commission.
Final package will depend on experience, industry relationships, and demonstrated ability to drive new business.
