Research Scientist, In Vitro Pharmacology (Histology Focus)

Position Summary
We are seeking a Research Scientist with strong expertise in histology and histopathology to support in vitro and translational research activities.
This role will be responsible for tissue processing, histological analysis, and staining (with a strong emphasis on IHC), while also contributing to broader vitro studies. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced in preparing and analyzing tissue samples in a regulated laboratory environment.
You will work closely with both In Vivo and In Vitro teams, ensuring high-quality sample processing, accurate data generation, and compliance with GLP and EHS standards.

Key Responsibilities
Histology and Tissue Processing (Core Focus)
- Perform tissue processing and embedding (FFPE) for a variety of study types
- Conduct microtome sectioning and cryostat sectioning
- Execute histological staining, including: o Immunohistochemistry (IHC) primary focus
- H&E staining oSpecial stains (e.g., Sirius Red and others as needed)
- Ensure proper handling, labeling, and tracking of tissue samples
- Maintain highquality histological output for downstream analysis
- Support the design, planning, and execution of in vitro and translational studies
- Collaborate with In Vivo team on sample receipt, processing, and integration into downstream assays
- Apply additional laboratory techniques as needed (e.g., ELISA, cellbased assays, molecular techniques)
- Troubleshoot experimental workflows and optimize histologyrelated processes
- Review and interpret histology data and staining results
- Maintain accurate and wellorganized laboratory records in compliance with GLP and internal SOPs
- Contribute to study reports, data summaries, and scientific documentation
- Assist in development and revision of SOPs for histology and related workflows
- Ensure compliance with GLP, nonGLP, and EHS standards
- Maintain histology lab equipment (microtome, cryostat, staining systems, etc.)
- Support lab organization, workflow efficiency, and inventory management
- Participate in audits, inspections, and quality processes as needed
- Train and mentor junior staff in histology techniques and best practices
- Serve as a technical resource for histologyrelated activities across teams
- Collaborate crossfunctionally with In Vivo, QA, and other departments
Required
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Pathology, or related field
- 36 years of handson histology experience in a research or CRO environment
- Strong handson experience with: o IHC staining (critical requirement)
- FFPE tissue processing and embedding oMicrotome sectioning and cryostat operation
- H&E and special stains
- Experience working with animal tissues and preclinical samples
- Familiarity with GLP or regulated laboratory environments
- Strong attention to detail and documentation practices
- Experience supporting preclinical or translational studies
- Familiarity with digital pathology or image analysis tools
- Experience with additional in vitro techniques (ELISA, PCR, etc.)
- AALAS certification or relevant histology certifications
- A histology specialist first, scientist second
- Handson and detailoriented with strong technical execution
- Able to manage sample workflows efficiently and independently
- Collaborative and comfortable working across teams
- Strong focus on quality, consistency, and reproducibility
- Work on diverse preclinical and translational research programs
