The Purchasing and Inventory Control Associate plays a dual role in managing the full cycle of procurement and ensuring accurate inventory levels to support smooth operations. This position is responsible for sourcing materials, negotiating with vendors, maintaining purchase records, and monitoring inventory to optimize stock levels, minimize shortages, and control costs.
This role requires strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and the ability to coordinate with multiple departments including operations, accounting, and production.
Key Responsibilities
Purchasing Duties
- Source and evaluate suppliers to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and reliability.
- Create and process purchase orders in accordance with company policies.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, and terms with vendors and service providers.
- Track order status, deliveries, and resolve any discrepancies or delays.
- Maintain accurate vendor and purchasing records in inventory management systems.
- Work with accounting to reconcile invoices and resolve payment issues.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings through strategic sourcing and supplier consolidation.
Inventory Control Duties
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of inventory levels, movements, and transactions.
- Perform regular inventory counts (cycle counts and physical inventories) and reconcile discrepancies.
- Monitor stock levels and reorder points to ensure adequate supplies without overstocking.
- Collaborate with operations and production to forecast inventory needs based on demand.
- Investigate inventory variances and escalate to management to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of materials to maintain quality and traceability.
- Generate inventory and purchasing reports for management review.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in chemical purchasing with experience in global sourcing/purchasing.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in both imperial and metric units.
- Proficient in weights, measures, and conversions.
- Proficiency with inventory management systems (e.g., Microsoft Access).
- Strong Excel and data analysis skills.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
- High attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment
- Part-time, on-site.
- May require occasional lifting (up to 25 lbs.) or warehouse work during inventory counts.

Pay: $29.00 - $32.00 per hour
