We are seeking a results-driven and strategically minded Director of R&D, Product Innovation to lead our product formulations strategy and develop from the ground up our scientific innovations team and lab in New Jersey. This is a hands-on role working alongside the team while leading the scientific direction of the company, driving innovation in encapsulation technologies, and leading the development of sustainable, biodegradable delivery systems for animal feed and agricultural inputs.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in materials science, formulation science, and/or agricultural biotechnology, and have a proven track record of R&D in early-stage and innovation scaling to commercially viable products. This is a transitional role. You’ll start out hands ? on driving formulation work, developing early products, and growing the team and lab. As the company grows, the role will expand into a broader scientific leadership position, ultimately evolving into a CSO ? level scope.

What You'll Be Doing:
- Lead all formulations research and development activities, ensuring the highest standards of scientific integrity and adherence to ethical guidelines
- Provide strategic vision and leadership for the company's formulations endeavors, aligning research priorities with business objectives
- Foster a culture of innovation within the organization, encouraging the exploration of new ideas, technologies, and methodologies
- Serve as a trusted formulations advisor to the executive team and board of directors, providing expert guidance on scientific matters
- Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with academic institutions, research organizations, and industry leaders to enhance the company's scientific capabilities and expand its network
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of laboratory scientists, researchers, and technicians, fostering a collaborative and intellectually stimulating environment
- Effectively communicate scientific findings and advancements to internal and external stakeholders, including investors, regulatory agencies, and the scientific community
- Manage and protect the company's intellectual property portfolio, including patents, trademarks, and trade secrets
- Ensure all formulations activities comply with relevant regulations, industry standards, and ethical guidelines
- Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics, engineering)
- 10 years of experience in formulations research and development, preferably in a leadership role
- Proven track record of leading successful research projects and translating scientific discoveries into proven commercial products
- Experience with intellectual property management and protection, relevant regulatory requirements
- Entrepreneurial drive and “can do” attitude
- Deep understanding of scientific principles and methodologies for encapsulation
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
