Summary:
The Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials, components, equipment, and services required for manufacturing operations. This role ensures timely delivery of quality goods at the best possible price to support production schedules and organizational goals. The Buyer works closely with suppliers, production teams, inventory control, and quality assurance to maintain smooth and cost-effective supply chain operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Purchase Management:
- Review and process purchase requisitions and orders based on production needs and inventory levels.
- Source and evaluate suppliers for quality, price, reliability, and delivery timelines.
- Negotiate terms, pricing, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
- Vendor Relations:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
- Monitor supplier performance and address issues related to quality, cost, or delivery.
- Conduct supplier audits and evaluations as needed.
- Inventory Coordination:
- Collaborate with inventory and production teams to forecast material needs.
- Monitor stock levels and reorder as necessary to avoid production delays.
- Cost Control:
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through bulk purchases, alternative suppliers, or contract negotiations.
- Analyze market trends and commodity pricing to inform purchasing strategies.
Qualifications:
- Experience in purchasing, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of supply chain processes, inventory management, and ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite).
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
