This position serves as the Maintenance Mechanic for the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care Systems (GCVAHCS). This position works under the general supervision of the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor Night Renovation Shop. The position performs at journeymen level a variety of trades including but not limited to, HVAC, pipefitting, plumbing, insulating, steel stud framing, drywall installation and finishing, carpentry, electrical, and dust control measures.

SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Responsibilities:
- Installs, modifies, and repairs a variety of critical hospital equipment and systems that achieve required climatic conditions.
- Installs and connects auxiliary control mechanisms and piping or tubing.
- Connects recording and gauging devices. Charges refrigeration systems and tests installation for leaks.
- Performs journeyman responsibilities in the pipefitting trades.
- Plans and lays out the routing, placement, materials needed necessary to feed new equipment and machinery installation, modification, and or repairs.
- Will work with cabinetry, furniture, orthopedic devises for use in medical offices and other uses.
- Troubleshoots and diagnose faulty equipment's and machinery power and control issues using electrical and electronic test equipment.
- Plans and lays out water closets, lavatories, and urinals and installs necessary supply and waste piping for those devices.
- Performs plastering duties.
- May install or replace rocks, wood, or metal lath.

Physical Requirements: May handle or carry weights up to 50 pounds, and occasionally more. Assembles and dissembles large systems. Work requires pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, walking, climbing of ladders or scaffolds, and stooping and executing duties sometimes in cramped and
uncomfortable positions.

Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outside in all weather conditions. Position may be assigned to work in areas/confined spaces where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include, but are not limited to fumes, dust, grease, noise, heat, ionizing, and non-ionizing radiation, escaping gas, chemicals, etc. Position will be required to wear respirators and typical safety equipment required such as safety shoes and glasses, respirators, protective clothing, and hard hats. May receive minor cuts and abrasions or suffer from a fall while performing these duties.
