What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pharmacy Resident PGY1 position at billingsclinic?
The Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) Pharmacy Resident (hereafter referred to as the resident) provides high quality patient care; advances practice and improves patient care; demonstrates leadership and management skills; and teaches, educates, and disseminates knowledge to others. The resident shall be knowledgeable about the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives as well as accreditation standards set forth by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). The resident shall be committed to attaining professional competence beyond entry-level practice. The resident shall be dedicated to achieving the PGY1 pharmacy residency program’s goals and objectives and will support Billings Clinic’s mission, vision, and values. The resident must seek constructive verbal and written feedback that directs his/her learning and must be committed to making active use of the constructive feedback provided by the PGY1 pharmacy residency program preceptors and Program Director, Pharmacy Residency. With the guidance from the Program Director, the resident may supervise for pharmacy students during their clinical rotations as allowed by the Montana Board of Pharmacy.

Designs and ensures implementation of safe and effective patient-centered therapeutic medication regimens and monitoring plans. Documents direct patient care activities appropriately. Ensures continuity of care during patient transitions between care settings. Manages transitions of care effectively. Demonstrates responsibility to patients.
• Prepares, dispenses, and manages medications to provide safe and effective drug therapy for patients. Prepares and dispenses medications following best practice standards and the organization’s and department’s policies and procedures. Manages aspects of the medication-uses process related to formulary management and the oversight of dispensing. Displays ethical behavior in all job-related activities.
• Contributes to departmental leadership and management activities as appropriate. Demonstrates ability to manage formulary and medication-use processes applicable to the organization and department. Participates in medication event reporting and monitoring.
• Demonstrates ability to evaluate and investigate practice, review data, and assimilate scientific evidence to improve patient care and/or the medication-use system. Identifies opportunities for improvement in patient care and/or the medication-use system. Develops, implements, and assesses changes to improve the patient care and/or the medication-use system.
• Demonstrates personal, interpersonal, and teamwork skills necessary for effective leadership. Applies a process of on-going self-evaluation and personal performance improvement. Manages one’s own practice effectively. Explains factors that influence departmental planning. Explains the elements of pharmacy and their relationship to the healthcare system. Contributes to departmental management.
• Provides effective medication and practice-related education to patients, caregivers, healthcare professionals, students, and the public. Designs effective educational activities. Uses effective presentation and teaching skills to deliver education. Uses appropriate written and oral communication skills to disseminate knowledge. Properly assesses the effectiveness of education.
• Employs appropriate preceptor roles when engaged in teaching. Selects appropriate preceptor role(s) that meets learners’ needs. Effectively utilizes the four preceptor roles: instructing, modeling, coaching, and facilitating.
• Participates in management of medical emergencies, including, but not limited to, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), stroke, and trauma events. Exercises skill as a team member in the management of medical emergencies in accordance with Billings Clinic’s policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
