JOB DESCRIPTION

Certified Medication Technician/Aide

SUPERVISOR: DIRECTOR OF NURSING

I. SKILL LEVEL AND EXPERIENCE:

A. Must be a Certified Medication Technician or Certified Medication Aide with an unencumbered certification.

B. Must complete orientation required by company policy.

C. Must complete health screening and TB test (if required) within two weeks of employment.

D. Must complete a mandatory drug test within 90 days of hire.

E. Must be free of criminal activity proven by a criminal background check.

F. Must become familiar with and comply to all local, state, and federal regulations relating to the job.

G. Must show, within three (3) days of hire, satisfactory evidence of identity and eligibility for employment. (Current license, CPR certification, Social Security Card, MT Driver License or Identification

H. Previous experience in working with geriatric residents is preferred and may be required.

II. COMMUNICATION AND DECISION-MAKING SKILLS:

A. Must possess the ability to work well and communicate effectively with other employees, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, the general public, etc.

B. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform required duties.

C. Must be perceptive, with good judgment and decision-making/problem- solving skills.

D. Must be able to understand and implement the plan of care and assess resident needs.

E. Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions.

III. PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

A. Must show courtesy and respect to other employees, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, the general public, etc.

B. Must maintain good personal hygiene and dress and groom appropriately.

C. Must abide by Billings Rehab & Nursing’s drug and alcohol policy.

IV. WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENTAL PARAMETERS:

A. Must be very flexible and willing to cover shifts for other employees that are on vacation, sick, etc. Shift work will be required.

B. Must be willing to work holidays and weekends.

C. Must possess the ability to work in a wet or humid environment.

D. Must be able and willing to work with body fluids, excretions, extreme odors, etc., while using universal precautions.

E. Is subject to the exposure of infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.

F. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.

V. PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

A. Must be able to sit, walk, lift and carry in excess of 75 pounds, bend, climb, kneel, squat, stoop, push, pull, grasp, reach arms above head, and have hand and finger dexterity.

B. Must be able to rapidly assist in the evacuation of all residents from the building in case of emergency.

C. Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of working daily with geriatric residents and dealing with emergency situations.

D. Must be able to see, hear, and smell sufficiently to assure the requirements of this position can be fully met.

E. Must be in good general health and be emotionally stable.

F. Must be able to perform the essential job functions without posing a direct threat to residents, self, or others.

VI. EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:

Must be able to operate the following equipment: fire extinguisher, blood pressure cuff, stethoscope, weight chair, hoyer lift, thermometer, scissors, restraints, whirlpool bath, gait belt, hair dryer, curling iron, needles, IV equipment, medicine cart, supplies cart, nurse chart tray, electric beds, wheel chairs, traction equipment, oxygen equipment, computer, telephone, etc.

I. POLICIES:

A. Report on time as scheduled and follow all company policies and procedures.

B. Attend staff meetings and in-service sessions.

C. Become thoroughly familiar with emergency procedures.

D. Must be able to perform duties in a timely fashion, and within the prescribed sequences and schedules.

E. Must be able to perform assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision and develop awareness for and a willingness to perform other tasks, as needed, without constant supervision.

F. Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.

G. Must respect all resident rights, including the confidentiality of resident care information.

H. Follow all established safety precautions when operating equipment, and report hazardous and defective equipment or conditions to your supervisor.

I. Must be cooperative with other departments and be courteous and respectful in dealing with them at all times.

J. You must report immediately to the Charge Nurse, to the Administrator, and to the proper legal authorities if you have reason to believe a resident has been physically, emotionally, or sexually abused, or been a victim of theft of their personal property.

K. Participate in and respond professionally to surveys (inspections) conducted by government agencies.

L. Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, cheerfulness, enthusiasm, and love, giving the resident the quality of service you would want to receive personally.

II. RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. The primary purpose of your position is to administer medications, treatments and evaluate effects of medications and treatments. Document medication and treatment given, implement all new physician orders and assist with direct resident care to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

B. Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to carry out the assigned duties.

C. Receive report at the beginning of each shift for updated information on present status of each resident.

D. Administer all medications (including prn medications) and perform treatments required by each resident during your shift.

E. Evaluate effect of medications on each resident and report findings or concerns to the Charge Nurse.

F. Evaluate effect of treatments on each resident and report findings or concerns to the RN charge nurse.

G. Document all medications or treatments given or not given as ordered. Document results of PRN administered medication on the front and back of charting sheet with reason and result.

H. Immediately implement all new physician orders for medication/treatments.

I. Frequently communicate with the Charge Nurse to exchange information on resident status and to optimize nursing care.

J. Order or reorder all medications from pharmacies, as needed, ensuring that an adequate supply is immediately available.

K. Keep all medication and treatment carts clean and properly stocked at all times.

L. Assist the Charge Nurse with treatments and direct resident care, as time permits.

M. Maintain and upgrade personal nursing skills through classes, workshops, reading materials, etc.

N. Other duties as assigned by the Charge Nurse, Case Manager or Director of Nursing within the scope of licensure.

Perform other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by Director of Nursing.

Hiring Bonus Available

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
