What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Teacher position at Billerica Memorial High School?
TLC Description - The Therapeutic Learning Center provides a highly structured therapeutic and supportive classroom for students with social-emotional and behavioral challenges. Staff recognize that all behaviors have a function and are caused by either environmental or innate factors, including but not limited to diagnosed disabilities, such as, mental health diagnoses, autism spectrum disorders, trauma, or similar underlying causes. Students in the program participate in Positive Behavioral Intervention Plans that are individually designed and supported by the program Social Worker and BCBA.
The TLC provides students with supported opportunities for inclusion. Each student’s participation in general education classes is determined by the student’s team and monitored with ongoing data collection. Specific services provided in the program include:
- Peer Modeling within inclusive experiences
- Small group academic instruction
- Supported General Education classes
- Individual and small group counseling
- Behavioral programming and reinforcement
- Consultation by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
- Coordinated strategies with outside resources to support emotional growth
- Other duties may be assigned by the Principal.
Related Service providers, paraprofessionals, and other support personnel provide accommodations and instructional support for these students in their general education classrooms. A school based Social Worker is assigned to the program as well.
Candidates must be MA certified as a Teacher of Students with Moderate or Severe Disabilities with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
