Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Residential Counselor ensures the safety of the youth, keeps them engaged in necessary tasks and shelter guidelines, and maintains clear documentation and communication with the support team.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Is expected to remain on site for the assigned shift to provide supervision and care for young adults and their families.
• Serves as an appropriate role model for young adults and their families.
• Ability to balance excellent client care while meeting deadlines and ensuring positive outcomes.
• Basic knowledge of crisis intervention and de-escalation strategies.
• Complete and submit shift reports daily.
• Complete documentation in HMIS/AWARDS and thorough shift summaries regarding client issues/progress.
• Ensure safety of young adults in the program.
• Must be able to communicate effectively, get along with co-workers, clients and management.
• Maintain professionalism under pressure.
• Support program structure, communicate with clients if structure is not being followed, follow-up consistently and as appropriate.
• Attend agency meetings and trainings 
• Maintains statistics and records as required – data entry of program and/or incident reports.
• Participate in agency safety initiatives and ensure that BWC site is neat and tidy and report all maintenance or safety issues to manager or Facilities Manager immediately.
• Participate in agency Program Quality Improvement activities and initiatives.
• Attend and complete training as required.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

• High School or GED is desired
• One to two years related experience and/or training or equivalent.
• Experience working with culturally diverse youth required.
• Personal or lived experience with housing instability, social services, systemic challenges, or the criminal/legal system is valued.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Comprehend and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Computer skills such as word processing, spreadsheets, email management, internet navigation, and operating system navigation required.
• Excellent communication skills required.
• Bi-lingual English/Spanish speaker highly desired.
• Navigate agency databases such as AWARDS and Gmail.

Physical Demands:

• Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time.
• Ability to move around the shelter, office, and stairs.
• Ability to move items up to 15lbs when necessary.

Work Environment:

• The noise level is usually moderate.
• Persons of all ages including infants in shelter at any given time.
• Located on a busy, high traffic street.
• Will be working independently.

Salary Range:
$24.00 - $26.00 per hour
