Duties
- Support students with disabilities by implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and adapting instructional materials accordingly
- Assist in delivering engaging lessons across subjects such as literacy, math, and social skills, utilizing curriculum development strategies including Montessori and preschool methodologies
- Provide hands-on care and supervision for children in early childhood settings, including toddler care and preschool environments
- Use effective behavior management techniques to foster positive classroom behavior and support social-emotional development
- Facilitate communication using American Sign Language (ASL) when appropriate, ensuring clear understanding for students with hearing impairments or communication challenges
- Collaborate with teachers on lesson planning, classroom organization, and assessment of student progress
- Support classroom routines, including transitions, snack/lunch periods, and rest times, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment
- Assist students during activities that promote literacy education, numeracy skills, and overall childhood development
- Engage in ongoing training related to working with children with disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, deaf education, and inclusive teaching practices
Qualifications
- Prior experience working with children in educational or childcare settings is highly preferred
- Knowledge of special education practices, IEP processes, and behavior management techniques
- Familiarity with deaf education, American Sign Language (ASL), autism spectrum disorder interventions, and developmental disabilities is a plus
- Background in early childhood education or preschool experience, including Montessori or toddler care methods
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with teachers, parents, and students
- Ability to adapt lesson plans for diverse learning styles and needs while maintaining classroom order
- Demonstrated patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for supporting children's growth and development
- Experience with curriculum development or lesson planning in literacy or math is advantageous
