Sign Language Interpreter in Norfolk, VA

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1 year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

A contracted opening is available for two Sign Language Interpreters to support elementary-level students in the Virginia Beach area. This opportunity focuses on delivering essential communication access within public schools during the current school year.

Assignment Details:

• Location: Elementary schools within the Virginia Beach area, VA
• Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 2:00 PM
• Duration: January 5, 2026 June 16, 2026, with potential renewal for the 2026/2027 school year
• Hours per week: 30
• Caseload: To be determined, serving elementary age students
• Contract Type: Full-time, contract position

Essential Qualifications:

• Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS) Level III certification is required
• Preferred Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 3.5 or higher; candidates with an EIPA score of 3.0 or a Quality Assurance Screening score of 3 or above will be considered
• Strong sign language interpreting skills with the ability to support young learners effectively

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate effective communication between deaf or hard of hearing students and teaching staff
• Provide appropriate sign language interpretation tailored to elementary school settings
• Collaborate with educators to foster an inclusive learning environment
• Maintain professional standards and adhere to district policies
