Adaptive Physical Education Teacher (APE) | San Mateo, California

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or a related field, Adapted Physical Education (APE) certification, and 1 years Adaptive PE Teacher experience required. This role focuses on delivering specialized physical education instruction tailored to students with varying adaptive needs, promoting physical health, coordination, and overall well-being in an inclusive school environment.Key Responsibilities:Develop and implement adaptive physical education programs designed to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities or unique physical requirements.Assess individual student abilities and progress, adjusting activities accordingly to maximize engagement and development.Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and support staff to create a cohesive approach to student growth.Ensure safety and proper use of equipment during physical activities and adapt equipment as necessary.Maintain accurate records of student progress and provide regular updates to parents and staff.Promote an inclusive and supportive environment that encourages student participation and confidence in physical activities.Desired Qualifications:Certification in Physical Education with specialized training or certification in Adaptive Physical Education.Experience working with students who have special needs in an educational setting.Strong understanding of various disabilities and appropriate adaptive physical education techniques.Excellent communication and collaboration skills.Ability to design creative lesson plans that engage and challenge students at different ability levels.Commitment to fostering a positive and encouraging environment for all students.This contract position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a diverse student community.
