JOB DESCRIPTION
Legal Assistant
The Legal Assistant role is intentionally broad and dynamic. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct administrative and legal support to Attorneys and Senior Legal Staff
- Manage and monitor multi-line phone systems; answer calls professionally, maintain call logs, and draft detailed phone memoranda
- Draft, format, and send correspondence, including letters, emails, faxes, and legal notices, on behalf of the firm
- Maintain and manage calendars, deadlines, reminders, conference scheduling, and related tracking systems
- Assist with client intake, including greeting clients and visitors and conducting basic intake interviews for potential new clients
- Maintain, organize, and update physical and electronic client files with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Process, monitor, and manage attorney and staff email communications as assigned; brief supervisors on the same
- Take detailed notes and records during meetings, conferences, and calls; assist with follow-up and task tracking
- Assist Legal Support Staff with document preparation, file updates, and case-related administrative tasks
- Perform general office duties, including filing, mail handling, and other administrative support functions
- As proficiency increases, assist with basic legal/investigative research, document drafting, internal legal procedures, and participate/conduct educational or training services
NECESSARY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency with MS Applications, WordPerfect, and other office software/equipment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; strong grammar and attention to detail
- High level of professionalism, reliability, and accuracy
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and adhere to company policies (e.g., social media, personal cell phone use, confidentiality)
- Prior experience in a law firm
- Bachelor’s degree required, (Master's Preferred)
- Experience using LexisNexis (Preferred)
SCHEDULE & WORK ENVIRONMENT
- In-office, standard business hours (Full-Time 30-40 hours); occasional flexibility based on office coverage needs
- Dress and personal appearance should reflect professional standards in accordance with firm policy and industry standards
