The Residential Solar Installation Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of residential solar PV installations, from planning and scheduling through final inspection and closeout. This role oversees installation crews, coordinates with design, sales, roofing, and permitting teams, and ensures projects meet safety, quality, budget, and timeline goals.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Crew Management
- Plan, schedule, and manage residential solar installations from start to finish.
- Supervise and support installation crews (lead installers, electricians, roofers, helpers).
- Assign daily tasks, set clear expectations, and ensure efficient use of labor and materials.
- Conduct pre‑installation site walks and final quality inspections.
- Troubleshoot on‑site issues and provide technical guidance to crews.
Quality & Safety
- Enforce company safety policies and OSHA standards on all job sites.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and job site inspections.
- Ensure installations comply with NEC, local building codes, and utility/AHJ requirements.
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures to minimize rework and service calls.
- Review installation photos, documentation, and checklists for accuracy and completeness.
Coordination & Communication
- Work closely with design/engineering to review plans and provide constructability feedback.
- Coordinate with permitting, inspection, and utility teams to keep projects moving.
- Communicate clearly with customers about installation schedules, site access, and project status.
- Collaborate with sales and roofing teams to verify site conditions and expectations before installation.
- Provide regular progress updates to management and help resolve escalated issues.
Operational & Administrative
- Track project timelines, labor hours, and material usage against budgets.
- Ensure accurate completion of job paperwork, change orders, and close‑out documents.
- Help maintain inventory levels of installation materials, tools, and equipment.
- Assist with hiring, training, mentoring, and performance feedback for field staff.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in processes, safety, and customer experience.
Qualifications
Required
- 3 years of experience in solar PV installation, electrical, or roofing, with at least 1–2 years in a lead or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of residential solar PV systems, racking, inverters, and balance‑of‑system components.
- Familiarity with NEC, local building codes, and best practices for rooftop work.
- Proven ability to lead crews, manage multiple projects, and solve problems in the field.
- Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work on roofs, ladders, and in varying weather conditions; able to lift 50–75 lbs.
Preferred (Nice to Have)
- NABCEP PV Installation Professional or related certification.
- State Journeyman or Master Electrician license (or ability to obtain).
- Experience with permitting, inspections, and utility interconnection processes.
- Experience using project management or field service software (e.g., Buildertrend, JobNimbus, Salesforce, etc.).
Work Environment & Schedule
- Primarily field‑based role with some office time for planning, coordination, and reporting.
- Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, with occasional evenings or weekends as needed to meet project deadlines.
- Travel to multiple job sites within service area/region.
