Big Sky Resort is seeking an experienced Lift Mechanic with prior ski lift maintenance industry experience. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all lift systems, including gondolas and high-speed detachable chairlifts. As part of the Lift Maintenance team, the Level 3 Lift Mechanic will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining components and systems related to lift operations. This is a hands-on role that requires a strong background in mechanical systems, attention to detail, and the ability to work in mountain environments and challenging weather conditions.

As part of the Lift Maintenance team, the Level 3 Lift Mechanic will be responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining components and systems related to lift operations. This is a hands-on role that requires a strong background in mechanical systems, attention to detail, and the ability to work in mountain environments and challenging weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily inspections and safety checks on aerial lift systems
- Troubleshoot and repair faults and component failures across various lift types
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, diagrams, and manufacturer manuals
- Understand and comply with all ANSI B77.1 standards, state and federal regulations
- Work at heights up to 80 feet using ladders, towers, and fall protection equipment
- Assist with start-up procedures before lift operations begin each morning
- Maintain accurate records of lift maintenance and repairs performed
- Collaborate with Lift Maintenance teammates and other departments to ensure safe and timely lift operations
- Use good judgment and a proactive mindset to address potential issues before they affect operations
- Maintain a professional and positive demeanor, especially in high-stress situations
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Minimum of 5 years of ski lift maintenance industry experience
- Working knowledge of fixed and detachable grip systems, rigging and hydraulics.
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must be comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and at heights
- Ability to ski or snowboard is required for access to mountain work locations
- Basic mechanical tool set required
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. unassisted
- Must be able to push/pull equipment and components weighing up to 80 lbs. with assistance
- Must be able to stand and sit for extended periods and climb multiple flights of stairs or towers
