What are the responsibilities and job description for the Web Designer position at Big Red Jelly?
Location: Provo, UT (In-Office)
Type: Full-time
Compensation: $55,000 – $85,000
Big Red Jelly is growing, and we’re looking for a creative, articulate, and driven Web Designer to join our team in Provo. We aren't looking for a "behind-the-scenes" coder; we want a visual storyteller who can build high-performing websites and then confidently walk a client through their new digital home.
At Big Red Jelly, we believe that world-class design is only as good as the strategy behind it. You’ll be responsible for taking brands from concept to a fully functional WordPress reality, ensuring every pixel serves a purpose.
- Design & Build: Develop stunning, user-centric websites primarily on WordPress.
- Present Your Work: You won't just hit "publish." You’ll present your designs to clients, explaining the why behind your creative choices.
- Collaborate: Work closely with our strategy and brand teams to ensure the digital experience aligns with the client’s broader vision.
- Stay Sharp: Participate in paid training to stay ahead of design trends and platform updates.
What does a typical week look like for a Web Designer on our team? It’s fast-paced, collaborative, and focused on high-quality output. You’ll be balancing creative flow with strategic execution.
- Design & Build Sprints: You’ll be the architect behind 5–10 client websites at various stages of production. Some days are for deep-dive creative building, while others are for final polish.
- The "Big Reveal" (Draft Reviews): You’ll hop on weekly video calls to present your drafts to clients. This is where your communication skills shine—you’ll walk them through your vision and gather feedback in real-time.
- Strategic Collaboration: You aren't on an island. You’ll frequently sync with Account Managers and other designers to ensure projects stay on track and meet our high brand standards.
- The Technical Hand-Off: A website isn't just a pretty face; it’s a tool. You’ll spend time setting up the "engine" under the hood—integrating CRMs, connecting Google Analytics, and ensuring the site is fully optimized for SEO and GEO (local search) performance.
- Process Mastery: We have a "proven process" for a reason. You’ll spend part of your week documenting your progress and updating project milestones in our project management software to keep the whole team (and the client) in the loop.
- WordPress Wizardry: You live and breathe WordPress. You know how to make it look custom, professional, and sleek.
- The "Eye": You have a strong portfolio showcasing modern aesthetics, clean layouts, and intuitive UX.
- Soft Skills: You are a great communicator. You’re comfortable leading a meeting and can handle client feedback with grace and professionalism.
- Provo Local: This is an in-office role at our Provo headquarters. We value the energy and collaboration of being together.
- The "Bonuses": Experience with Shopify or Wix is a major plus. While this isn't a developer role, a little "technical bravery" (basic HTML/CSS knowledge) is always appreciated.
We take care of our own. Joining a growing company means your impact is felt immediately.
- Growth: Paid training and clear paths for career advancement.
- Health & Wealth: Health insurance and 401K options.
- Time Off: Generous PTO and a flexible schedule to keep your work-life balance in check.
- Culture: Growing and ambitious team of marketers, creatives and designers.
- If you’re a designer who loves the thrill of a launch and the art of a great presentation, we want to meet you.
