Position Overview
The Director of Creative Services leads Big Leap’s internal creative fulfillment team, ensuring high-quality, efficient delivery of SEO content, content marketing assets, graphic design assets, web development projects, and website builds/redesigns in support of client marketing strategies.
This role blends operational leadership with marketing fluency. The Director is responsible for improving production quality, strengthening workflows, increasing efficiency, and developing team members while collaborating closely with the Creative Product Owner to define and uphold standards of excellence.
This is a leadership role focused on production excellence, team development, and operational rigor within a digital marketing agency environment. As the creative fulfillment function evolves, this role will help shape and adapt processes to meet the changing needs of the business.
Key Responsibilities
1. Team Leadership & Development
- Directly manage writers, editors, designers, and developers.
- Conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, and professional development planning.
- Provide ongoing coaching on craft, clarity, execution, and marketing alignment.
- Establish clear performance expectations and hold team members accountable to quality and timeliness standards.
- Hire and manage in-house and freelance contributors as needed.
- Foster a culture of professionalism, ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
2. Creative Quality & Standards
- Ensure creative deliverables meet established standards for clarity, accuracy, SEO alignment, and strategic intent.
- Partner with the Creative Product Owner to refine quality benchmarks and best practices.
- Conduct periodic QA reviews/editing and provide actionable feedback.
- Support the team in workshopping complex writing or design challenges.
- Partner with marketing channel leads to ensure creative output aligns with channel and performance objectives.
3. Operational Excellence & Workflow Optimization
- Oversee team capacity planning and resource allocation in partnership with the Project Manager.
- Improve workflows to enhance predictability, reduce bottlenecks, and increase efficiency.
- Maintain clear SOPs, templates, and documentation, refining as needed.
- Address production escalations and reprioritize work when necessary.
- Collaborate with internal teams to prioritize work and align on timelines.
- Evaluate and implement tools (including AI) to increase efficiency and quality.
4. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with SEO, PPC, Strategy, and Account teams to ensure alignment between marketing objectives and creative execution.
- Ensure clarity in scope, expectations, and delivery timelines.
- Translate marketing strategies into actionable, well-scoped creative deliverables.
- Participate in internal planning and occasionally join client conversations when needed.
5. Budget & Resource Management
- Manage department budget, including freelance spend and tools.
- Forecast hiring and capacity needs.
- Support evolving financial accountability systems within the department.
6. Data & Performance Insight
- Pull and interpret performance data to assess content effectiveness and team productivity.
- Use data insights to refine quality improvements and workflow adjustments.
- Ensure creative outputs support measurable marketing performance.
Experience & Skills
- Experience leading creative, content, or production teams.
- Strong understanding of SEO, content marketing, and digital marketing fundamentals.
- Demonstrated ability to improve operational efficiency and quality.
- Experience managing workflows in Asana.
- Budget and resource management experience.
- Experience coaching and developing creative professionals.
