Position Overview
Big Ideas Educational Services is seeking a professional and dependable Security Guard who is a current Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) employee. This requirement ensures proper campus access, compliance, and alignment with school-day security protocols.
The Security Guard plays a critical role in maintaining a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment during after-school program hours.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Patrol school premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, gates, and program areas
- Monitor and authorize entrance and departure of employees, students, parents, and visitors
- Maintain visibility during student dismissal and parent pick-up procedures
- Respond to alarms and investigate disturbances
- Contact police or fire departments in cases of emergency (fire, medical emergency, unauthorized persons, etc.)
- Circulate among students, visitors, and staff to preserve order and protect property
- Follow all school-site safety procedures, including arrival and dismissal protocols
- Adhere to schedules as assigned by the Site Manager
- Follow the established chain of command as outlined in the Staff Handbook
- Participate in weekly team meetings as required
- Support site staff in maintaining a safe, structured, and positive environment
- Respond to parent questions and concerns in a professional, calm, and courteous manner
Qualifications
- Must be a current MDCPS employee (required)
- High School Diploma or higher
- Clear Level II background screening
- 1–2 years of experience working with children or in a school setting preferred
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities independently
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in high-pressure situations
- Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and reliability
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and staff
- Punctual, trustworthy, and team-oriented
