Position: Physical Education (PE) Teacher
Position Overview
The Physical Education (PE) Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering structured, engaging physical activity that promotes student health, teamwork, and social-emotional development. This role ensures that physical education is purposeful, inclusive, and aligned with Big Ideas program goals and student needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and implement structured, engaging physical education activities that promote fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship
- Deliver daily physical activity aligned with program schedules, including indoor and outdoor rotations
- Create a safe, inclusive environment that supports all students, including those with varying physical abilities
- Modify activities as needed to meet diverse student needs and ensure full participation
- Collaborate with Site Managers, Lead Teachers, and Program Coordinators to align activities with overall program goals
- Reinforce positive behavior using established behavior management strategies and program expectations
- Model professionalism, active engagement, and positive student interactions at all times
- Supervise students during all physical activity to ensure safety and adherence to program policies
- Support structured transitions (e.g., outdoor routines, equipment setup, line procedures) to maximize instructional time
- Maintain accurate records of participation, behavior, and any incidents as required
- Participate in all required organization-wide trainings and ongoing professional learning
- Assist in planning and facilitating recreational events, team-building activities, and group games
- Communicate effectively with staff regarding student needs, behavior, and progress
- Support interdisciplinary connections by integrating teamwork, communication, and SEL skills into activities
Qualifications (Preferred)
- Experience working with elementary-aged students (K–5 preferred)
- Background in physical education, coaching, youth development, or related field
- Ability to manage large groups in an active environment
- Strong classroom and behavior management skills
- Ability to create engaging, structured, and developmentally appropriate activities
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Commitment to student safety, engagement, and positive youth development
Work Schedule
- After School: Approximately 2–6 PM (varies by site)
- Summer Program: Extended daytime hours
