Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician Apprentice supports licensed HVAC Maintenance Technicians in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of residential and light commercial HVAC systems. This entry-level role is designed to develop technical skills, safety awareness, and customer service capabilities through hands-on training and mentorship.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist Maintenance Technicians with HVAC service, maintenance, and repair tasks
- Learn to inspect, diagnose, and troubleshoot HVAC system issues under supervision
- Perform basic maintenance tasks such as filter changes, cleaning components, and checking system operation
- Retrieve tools, materials, and parts as needed to support service calls
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site
- Accurately document work performed and assist with service reports
- Follow all company policies, safety procedures, OSHA standards, and manufacturer guidelines
- Attend required training, safety meetings, and technical education sessions
- Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicles in good working condition
- Represent the company professionally when interacting with customers
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- Enrollment in or completion of an HVAC trade school program preferred
- No prior HVAC experience required; willingness to learn is essential
Licenses & Certifications
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record (or ability to obtain)
- EPA Section 608 Certification preferred or ability to obtain within a defined timeframe
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in HVAC systems
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Basic math and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to use mobile devices or service software for documentation
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb ladders
- Ability to work in confined spaces such as attics and crawlspaces
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
Work Environment
- Residential and light commercial job sites
- Exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise, and mechanical equipment
- Frequent field-based work under supervision
Schedule
- Typically Monday through Friday
- Overtime, evenings, or weekends may be required during peak seasons
Travel Requirements
- Local travel within the assigned service area
