Job Opening: Handyman – Big Dog Ranch Rescue (Alabama Location)

Big Dog Ranch Rescue is dedicated to saving, rehabilitating, and rehoming dogs in need. Our facilities are the heart of our mission — and we need a skilled, dependable, and hard-working “Mr. Fix-It” to help keep our property and buildings in top shape.
Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Handyman who can handle a wide range of repair and upkeep tasks across our rescue’s grounds and buildings. From fixing kennels and maintaining equipment, to plumbing, carpenter and minor electrical work, and everything in between — you’ll be the go-to person for keeping our operations running smoothly and safely.
Key Responsibilities Must have own set of basic tools:
- Perform routine inspections of buildings, animal areas, and outdoor property to identify and address maintenance needs.
- Repair and maintain dog kennels, fencing, and gates.
- Basic plumbing repairs (unclogging drains, replacing fixtures, fixing leaks).
- Basic electrical work (changing light fixtures, replacing outlets/switches, troubleshooting minor issues).
- Painting and patching walls.
- Carpentry and woodworking repairs (doors, shelves, furniture).
- Installing, repairing, and maintaining equipment and tools.
- Replacing windows, locks, and hardware as needed.
- Yard and grounds upkeep — mowing, trimming, clearing debris, maintaining walkways.
- Power washing buildings, patios, and kennels.
- Minor appliance troubleshooting and repair.
- Maintaining and organizing the workshop, tools, and supplies.
- Assisting with setup and breakdown for events or special projects.
- Emergency repair response as needed.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in general maintenance, handyman, or building repair work.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems.
- Ability to use a wide range of tools safely and effectively.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong problem-solving skills and self-motivation.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Team player with good communication skills.
- Passion for animal welfare is a plus!
