The Position:
The Licensed Customs Broker serves as a licensed intermediary between clients and government agencies such as US Customs and Border Protection to facilitate the legal movement of goods into the USA. This role ensures regulatory compliance, maintains current customs procedures, and acts as the key point of contact for resolving issues and managing communications between Customs, the company, and its clients.
Position Responsibilities:
- Preparing, filing and submitting critical documentation, including commercial invoices, certificates of origin, bills of lading, permits, and import/export declarations.
- Track and monitor the status of clients' shipments.
- Determining the correct Harmonized System (HS) codes for goods to ensure they are classified accurately for tax purposes.
- Calculating and proper valuation and paying required duties, taxes, and federal fees on behalf of clients.
- Ensuring all shipments meet complex and evolving international trade laws, including safety, environmental, and health standards.
- Acting as the primary point of contact between importers/exporters, freight forwarders, and government officials to resolve clearance issues or delays.
- Guiding businesses on trade agreements, duty exemptions, and strategies to minimize costs and legal risks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Active Customs Broker License is required.
- High school diploma required.
- Associates or Bachelors degree in business, logistics, international trade, or related field is preferred.
- 5 years of experience in customs brokerage required.
- In-depth familiarity with U.S. customs regulations and procedures is required.
- Highly proficient in customs entry software like ACE (Automated Commercial Environment), trade management systems (e.g., SAP GTS), and EDI systems.
