Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and safety-focused Light Rail Controller to direct and manage all aspects of light rail vehicle (LRV) movement and systems monitoring across our alignment and yards.
This pivotal role is responsible for maintaining the safety, efficiency, and on-time performance of the rail system by actively controlling signals, switches, and train movements using the SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system.
The ideal candidate will possess exceptional multitasking abilities, a keen eye for detail, and the capacity to remain calm and decisive under pressure, particularly during emergencies.
Job Responsibilities
- Controls all signals, switches and train movement (via SCADA) within any given interlocking along the alignment.
- Monitor all alarms and indications from Remote Terminal Unit’s Substations, Signal Houses.
- Monitor stations, platforms, elevators/escalators, emergency telephones and ticket vending machines, and report any defects. Respond to emergency alarms.
- Ensure that the Agency’s safety procedures, policies and rules are followed by all employees, contractors and visitors that transcend the right-of-way.
- Provide troubleshooting techniques to assist train Operators.
- Report delays and problems promptly and take appropriate actions to correct performance and maintain established schedules.
- Enter daily rail activities in to various databases, logs and rail operations management information systems.
- Assist passengers and ensure that safe, efficient and courteous rail service is provided.
- Direct all rail vehicle movement within the yards and along the alignment.
- Develop and implement procedures and schedules to regulate the activities of LRV Operators: assist in the development and implementation of performance standards for LRV Operators and evaluate employee productivity and performance against established standards.
- Assist in the preparation of safety procedures, rules and regulations for light rail operations; participate in emergency situations involving vehicles, equipment and passengers; notify the appropriate persons in the event of an emergency.
- Must successfully complete 16 weeks of On the Job Training (OJT) which includes all necessary testing and a Final Oral Practical Exam to be considered a qualified Light Rail Controller
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be able to pass LRV Operator training course, and re-qualify as directed.
- Ability to manage several different tasks at the same time while directing train movement.
- Ability to evaluate the work of employees, develop procedures, rules and schedules, and instruct employees on operations and safety procedures.
- Must demonstrate the ability to navigate train movement in a SCADA environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing while working under pressure.
- Must be able to navigate through Microsoft Word and Excel, understand Access, as well as general typing skills.
