Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Triage Nurse for our GI (Gastroenterology) Clinic. The ideal candidate will possess extensive nursing experience, with a focus on patient assessment, triage, and acute care management. In this role, you will serve as the first point of contact for patients, evaluating their needs, prioritizing care, and coordinating appropriate interventions to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Your expertise in medical documentation, EMR systems, and diverse clinical procedures will be essential in delivering high-quality, compassionate care within a fast-paced outpatient environment.
Duties
- Prioritize patient cases based on clinical severity, utilizing triage protocols aligned with clinical standards and best practices.
- Manage patient flow efficiently by coordinating appointments, referrals, and follow-up care within the GI clinic setting.
- Administer medications, injections, IV infusions, and perform sterile procedures such as suturing and catheter care as needed.
- Document all patient interactions accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Record) systems like Epic or Cerner while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with diagnostic evaluations including specimen collection/processing and operating basic medical equipment such as ventilators or monitors.
- Provide education to patients regarding procedures, medication administration, lifestyle modifications, and post-procedure care.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, specialists in gastroenterology, and other healthcare team members to deliver coordinated patient-centered care.
Requirements
- Valid nursing license (RN or LPN) with current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS); additional certifications such as ACLS or PALS are preferred.
- Extensive nursing experience in acute care settings including hospital medicine, emergency room, ICU, or outpatient clinics; experience in gastroenterology is advantageous.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems ; familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9) is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to gastrointestinal health.
- Demonstrated ability to perform triage effectively in high-pressure environments while maintaining excellent patient care standards.
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Skills in performing sterile techniques such as phlebotomy.
- Knowledge of infection control practices and aseptic techniques to ensure safety during procedures.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams across clinics and ASC settings;
- Prior experience in a Gastroenterology (GI) specialty is highly preferred
