DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Smart Batch Shop Technician shall be a reliable, hands-on resource that will be assigned various tasks including operating machinery, assisting with equipment assembly, helping to maintain order in the shop, helping prepare equipment for customer delivery and supporting the team with other shop tasks, as assigned. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, excellent customer service skills and a willingness to pitch in wherever needed to keep operations running smoothly. 

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate production machinery used in forming metal components according to specified procedures and safety standards.
  • Perform multi-faceted work that is necessary to build, assemble, fabricate, inspect, test, diagnose, analyze, troubleshoot, repair, replace, and modify structural and mechanical products.
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools (including metal fabricating machines, welding machines, saws, drills, sanders, files, grinders, and rivet guns), jigs, fixtures, gauges, measuring and test equipment.
  • Use work orders, technical drawings, specifications and instructional information to perform assembly, item fabrication or repair tasks.
  • Assist the assembly team member(s) with the fit and alignment of heavy parts. 
  • May assist with pulling and staging parts for future assembly tasks which will include tracking and communicating issuance and requesting stock replenishments.
  • Assist in the finishing of manufactured equipment and systems which may include product testing and/or operating test equipment, cleaning equipment, applying decals and other duties, as assigned.
  • May assist with packaging and fulfillment of customer orders.
  • May be asked to inspect and retrieve fabricated items from vendors.
  • Provide aid to the R&D teams with various tasks.
  • Perform routine cleaning, sweeping, and shop organization to maintain a safe, clean, and efficient working environment.
  • May assist with receiving and organizing raw materials and supplies, as needed.
    • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.

  • Must be detail oriented and a strong desire to produce high quality products.

  • Must have excellent customer service skills and experience working with customer to resolve issues.
  • Must be certified or willing to become certified to drive a forklift.
  • Must have experience driving a non-CDL truck and trailer
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
  • Must be dependable, reliable and punctual.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical or vocational training in manufacturing, mechanical, or industrial fields is a plus but not required.
  • Forklift certification, a plus
  • On-the-job training will be provided.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment is preferred but not required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Capable of performing physical tasks in a shop environment (e.g., bending, lifting, climbing). Climb, crawl, and walk while carrying or operating machinery and tools upstairs, downstairs, and over potentially uneven surfaces.
  • Lift, pull, push, and carry 80 lbs. of weight intermittently.
  • Sustain the stamina to perform manual labor outdoors, exposed to the elements, vibrations, loud noises, offensive smells, dust, dirt, and water in all seasons, including extreme temperatures.
  • Distinguish between different colors.
  • Bend, squat, twist, and reach in various positions as the situation dictates.
  • Exposed to cold, heat, noise mechanical/electrical fume or odor.
  • Requires frequent repetitive movements, i.e. hammering, turning wrenches, screwdrivers and impact tools.
