Role Description

Bexley United Methodist Church is seeking a dedicated part-time Music Director to lead and oversee its Traditional music ministry. This on-site role involves planning and coordinating music for Traditional worship services, managing music-related activities, and supporting congregational singing. Responsibilities include planning choral anthems for weekly worship, attending periodic worship planning sessions, and collaborating with the Pastor and Contemporary worship service leader for joint worship and special events (Holidays, funerals, weddings, etc.)

Measurable Criteria:

• Agreement with Bexley United Methodist Affirmation of Welcome
• Demonstrable Experience in Conducting and Singing in a choral setting
• A Bachelor's Degree in Music is preferred 
• Proficient in music, vocal and piano 

Qualifications

• A strong walk with God through a growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ
• A highly motivated self-starter
• has a passion and understanding for leading a choir
• Ability to teach vocal techniques at a variety of levels
• Is a pianist, capable of occasionally accompanying the choir
• Is a good communicator, especially in a worship setting
• Able to take instructions
• Team play with effective relational skills (works well with others)

Job Description:

• Plan choral anthems for weekly worship services 
• Manage and become familiar with the Choral Library of Bexley UMC 
• Plan special music for Traditional Worship 
• Collaborate with the organist/accompanist regarding other music elements in the weekly worship service 
• Direct the choir during rehearsals and services 
• Recruit new choir members from both inside and outside of the congregation
• Recruit up to 4 section leaders who will be part of the church choir 
• Plan and execute rehearsals for special services which include but are not limited to: Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday or Good Friday, and Easter Sunday 
• Collaborate with Sunburst! Worship and Technical Director on occasions when joint worship services are planned 
• Communicate music selections with the Church Administrator in a timely way Attend periodic worship planning sessions 
• Plan summer choir soloists and once-a-month choir in the worship service 
• Assist the Senior Pastor with music for special services, e.g. weddings and funerals.
