Summary

Under limited supervision, performs highly complex (senior-level) social services work that will enable Military and Veteran Services to provide holistic non-clinical client services and peer support, through systems and programs impacting the veteran community by addressing gaps in resources and improve community members’ access to necessary services. In addition to these administrative functions, the position will provide specialized case management, advocacy, conflict resolution, and mediation, conduct individual and/or group sessions and perform related duties as required.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a reasonable client caseload based on internal and external requests for social work assistance from the department and community partners.
  • Conduct client interviews and conduct person centered assessments to identify the psychosocial, economic, and physical needs of clients and develop a service treatment plan.
  • Identify and conduct interviews with family, friends, employers, and other support system members in the community who can aid in clients’ success and wellbeing.
  • Effectively coordinate with the Veterans Administration, local social service agencies/organizations, criminal justice agencies and community.
  • Leverages history and resources to determine veteran’s suitability for referral to external agencies and services
  • Leads individual and groups: Facilitating recovery groups, educational sessions, and support groups for the veteran population
  • Assesses and coordinates with agencies related to crisis interventions for veterans, to include but not limited to detainment, as needed.
  • Coordinate and facilitate therapeutic interventions and activities designed to improve quality of life of veteran clients.
  • Maintain knowledge of holistic approaches in wellness and recovery to include best practices
  • Attend mental health training sessions and related peer support programs relative to veteran services.
  • Accomplishes program and department objectives by supervising intake staff and organizing and monitoring work processes.
  • Develop and maintain monthly caseload statistics and programmatic information for grant reporting.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master’s in social work and licensed through the Texas State Board of Social Work Examiners or the equivalent and at least two (2) years of experience in mental health, criminal justice, casework or social services setting
  • Must possess strong writing, interviewing, and interpersonal verbal communication skills
  • Must have Peer support training from Health and Human Services Hope or Certification from Texas Veteran Peer Support programs or successful completion of credentials within three (3) months from hire.
  • Ability to adjust to rapidly fluctuating situations; ability to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, county employees, department directors, elected/appointed officials, outside organizations, attorneys, the news media and the public. Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments
  • Skill in managing multiple projects simultaneously; skill in communicating effectively with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint; be able to demonstrate technological intuitiveness
  • Must possess strong organizational and communication skills, as well as excellent computer literacy
  • Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance
  • Must clear a pre-employment physical and a pre-employment drug screen
  • May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in administration management working directly with service members, veterans, and family members
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
Working conditions are in an office/telework environment
  • Occasionally moves items weighing up to 10 pounds
  • Occasionally move about the office/ telework office
  • Frequently communicates with others using approved technological resources; must be able to exchange accurate information through designated systems within a timely manner
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
  • Positions self to perform essential functions of the job in an office/telework environment
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position
  • Flexibility to achieve performance excellence in a telework arrangement
  • Maintains County-issued equipment, software, data, and supplies
