Job Description
- The Transportation department provides transportation to the students of Beverly who attend our public schools as well as those who attend parochial schools in Beverly. Students are bussed daily to and from their respective schools.
- Transportation is provided for students who participate in school field trips, athletic/music programs or any other school based activity that requires bussing.
- Our goal is to provide transportation to all students in a safe and timely manner.
- Base schedule is Monday-Friday, per school year calendar
- AM/PM and flexible shifts available; local routes, late runs and athletic/field trips
- Paid time off for all Bus Monitors
- Benefits available for Bus Monitors working 20 hours per week
Key Responsibilities and Qualifications
- Provide a secure, safe and disciplined environment and communication level to all students, parents/guardians and caregivers accessing Beverly Public Schools transportation
- Ensure safety of students, providing assistance with seat belts, car seats and/or wheelchairs
- Communicate safety and boarding/disembarking procedures to passengers
- Assist teachers, personal care providers, parents and guardians with loading and unloading students before and after transport begins
- Maintain and update student rosters, no calls and no shows
- Complete discipline forms, log books and other forms as necessary; log books are to be kept in mailbox at the end of each run
- Check bus after each shift, checking seats for sleeping students or any lost items
- Help to secure bus at the end of the day
- Participate in maintaining cleanliness of the bus, removing trash, closing windows and general cleaning
- Check mailbox twice daily, before AM and PM runs
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form
- Working knowledge of Beverly and North Shore areas
- Knowledge of routes and assist substitute drivers with navigation
- CPR, First Aid and First Response training required within first year
- Subject to random drug testing and yearly physical exams

Physical Demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop.
- The employee must lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in a Public School Bus/Van. Majority of the work is performed in a moderately noisy environment with frequent interruptions.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Patient, flexible and dependable attitude with good character references
- Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment
Compensation
- Compensation is set in accordance with the Beverly Public Schools Transportation collective bargaining agreement.
Employment Eligibility
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a CORI and SORI background check and fingerprint-based national criminal history check, in accordance with Massachusetts law.
- In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
- Pre-employment physical examination is required; subject to random drug testing and annual physical exams
