The Buyer is responsible for planning and executing purchases for assigned categories, interpreting MRP signals, and maintaining optimal inventory to support production and customer service. This role owns day-to-day supplier communication, manages domestic and international supplier relationships, and helps drive continuous improvement in cost, reliability, and supply chain performance.

Essential Job Duties:
· Utilize the ERP/MRP system to execute and interpret material plans, distinguishing between accurate signals and system noise to make sound purchasing and rescheduling decisions.
· Proactively review MRP exceptions, demand changes, and supply risks, communicating impacts and recommendations to Production, Sales, and Planning before issues affect service.
· Maintain strategic inventory levels for raw materials and finished goods by adjusting orders, dates, and lot sizes based on lead times, constraints, and supplier performance.
· Follow and improve SOPs and quality processes, ensuring suppliers meet approval requirements and drive timely closure of quality and delivery issues.
· Own day-to-day supplier communication: secure confirmations, anticipating delays, and ensure suppliers provide early visibility on constraints, capacity, and shipment status.
· Manage a mix of domestic and international suppliers, navigating time zones, transit times, Incoterms, and documentation requirements to protect supply continuity.
· Maintain and analyze supplier scorecards, using data to challenge suppliers, support business reviews, and recommend changes to lead times, safety stocks, or sourcing approach.
· Coordinate inbound logistics with transportation partners to meet production need dates while balancing cost, mode selection, and consolidation opportunities.
· Support and occasionally lead continuous improvement activities that enhance MRP data accuracy, planning parameters, and supplier performance, using LEAN tools.
· Occasional business travel and other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business, Operations, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
3–5 years of experience in purchasing, planning, or buyer/planner roles in a manufacturing or food/CPG environment.
Working knowledge of MRP and ERP systems, with demonstrated ability to interpret MRP signals and distinguish between valid requirements and system noise.
Strong understanding of inventory management concepts (lead time, safety stock, MOQ, lot sizing, and reorder strategies).
