Maintenance Assistant

Pay: $17.50–$18.50 per hour
Schedule: Full-time, five days per week. Weekend availability is required, but the schedule does not necessarily include both Saturday and Sunday every week.

Dauphin Island Beach Rentals is a locally owned vacation rental management company located on Dauphin Island, Alabama. We manage over 100 vacation homes and focus on providing clean, well-maintained properties and excellent service to both homeowners and guests.

Our team works together to keep homes guest-ready year-round. This includes routine maintenance, quick response to issues, preventative care, and ongoing property improvements. We take pride in our work, support each other, and focus on getting the job done right.

Dauphin Island Beach Rentals is looking for a dependable and hardworking Maintenance Assistant to help maintain our vacation rental properties on Dauphin Island, AL.

In this hands-on role, you'll assist with general property maintenance, basic repairs, preventative maintenance, and outdoor upkeep to ensure our vacation homes remain safe, functional, and ready for guests.

Daily responsibilities range from simple tasks like changing lightbulbs and replacing air filters to assisting with plumbing, electrical, appliance, and carpentry repairs. We're looking for someone who enjoys working with their hands, can handle a variety of maintenance tasks, and is willing to learn new skills.

General Property Maintenance

• Perform routine upkeep and minor repairs at vacation rental homes.

• Bring trash cans from the street back to the properties.

• Replace lightbulbs and batteries in remotes, thermostats, and smoke detectors.

• Complete basic cleaning, painting touch-ups, and minor property improvements.

• Identify and report property damage, maintenance concerns, or needed repairs.

Preventative Maintenance

• Replace HVAC air filters and perform routine maintenance checks.

• Inspect properties for wear, damage, and potential maintenance issues.

• Check smoke detectors and other safety equipment.

• Help identify and address minor issues before they become larger repairs.

Repairs and Handyman Work

• Assist with basic plumbing repairs, including leaks, faucets, clogged drains, and toilets.

• Perform minor electrical repairs, such as replacing outlets, switches, and light fixtures, when qualified and permitted.

• Troubleshoot and assist with repairs to household appliances, including refrigerators, dishwashers, washers, dryers, and ovens.

• Complete drywall repairs, painting touch-ups, and minor carpentry work.

• Adjust or replace doors, locks, and hardware.

• Assist with repairs to decks, stairs, railings, and other property features.

Outdoor Maintenance

• Perform weed eating, yard cleanup, and general exterior property upkeep.

• Pressure wash decks, driveways, and pool areas.

• Assist with storm preparation and post-storm cleanup.

• Support pool area maintenance as needed.

Maintenance Projects and Team Support

• Assist with larger property repairs, renovations, and improvement projects.

• Work alongside contractors and other maintenance team members.

• Help transport and move materials, tools, and equipment.

• Support the maintenance team with additional tasks as needed.

• Valid driver's license.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs daily.

• Ability to perform physically demanding work, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying equipment.

• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

• Willingness to perform a variety of maintenance tasks, from basic property upkeep to assisting with more involved repairs.

• Weekend availability

• Previous experience in general maintenance, property maintenance, handyman work, or home repairs.

• Basic plumbing knowledge or repair experience.

• Basic electrical knowledge or repair experience.

• Basic woodworking or carpentry skills.

• Experience maintaining residential homes, vacation rentals, or similar properties.

Compensation: $17.50–$18.50 per hour
