The Kitchen Supervisor is responsible for preparing and overseeing meal services to ensure that the needs of guests are met in a coordinated and consistent manner. The Kitchen Supervisor supervises the kitchen staff and is responsible for overseeing kitchen operations in cooperation with program management.
Reports to: Program Coordinator
Hours: 9am – 5pm, Tuesday – Saturday
Pay Range: $20-21
Required: Current & valid state-issued driver's license and the ability to operate a cargo van
General Responsibilities:
Supervise kitchen staff, including orientation, planning, organizing and directing work.
Oversee the planning, preparation, service and clean-up of nutritious meals for participants and shelter residents including, menu planning, food ordering and preparation; maintaining needed supplies and coordinating shopping trips, deliveries and pick-ups, as required.
Maintain and ensure that the kitchen, dining and storage areas are sanitary and clean, while adhering to proper food handling safety regulations/procedures (Department of Health, Licenses and Inspection (L&I) and ServSafe standards and best practices for food handling and preparation at all times.
Welcome and host visitors, including volunteers and providing supervision as needed.
Maintain accurate daily meal counts and providing report details on a monthly basis.
Skill/Educational Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge of food service; ServSafe Certification required;
2-3 years prior experience in kitchen management preferred;
Positive, strong leadership that can motivate, guide, and direct a team in the fulfillment of Bethesda Project’s mission and core values.
Understanding of homelessness, substance abuse, and mental health issues is helpful.
Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
Computer literacy with proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook.
Team oriented disposition.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, talk or hear; walk; and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is regularly required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Able to regularly lift up to 30 pounds consistently, occasionally lift over 50 pounds, and to spend long periods of time on feet. Ability to climb stairs.
Pay Range: $20-21
