What are the responsibilities and job description for the Security (F/T) position at Bethesda Project?
Security Staff is responsible for the overall security of the facility. The staff member will work with the Security Supervisor, staff, shelter guests, and program participants to ensure safety. The life experiences of the people experiencing homeless may vary widely and mandate that staff be able to respect and value all individuals.
Hours: Sun-Thurs 4pm-12am
Pay: $16.82 per hour
General Responsibilities
- Check incoming guests and their belongings at the door for concealed weapons or drugs and contraband or paraphernalia.
- Ensure the proper functioning of the ID system, sign-in kiosk, and visitor badge printer.
- Escort non-compliant program participants out of the building.
- Contact police back-up by calling 911 if necessary.
- Work with all staff to enforce the behavior code of conduct.
- Alert staff of any observable behavior that is suspicious or threatening.
- Report equipment malfunctions to Operations Manager to arrange for repair.
- Record all noteworthy incidents and observations.
- Inform other staff members coming onto their shift of circumstances they may need to know about in working with the men.
- Patrol the building regularly during assigned shift including the outside area.
- Secure and patrol the building at time of curfew.
- Ensure all keys present at the beginning and end of each shift
- Attend bi-weekly staff meetings.
Skill/Educational Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of safe behavioral management techniques
- Experience in security preferred
- Strong interpersonal and organizational communication skills
- Team-oriented disposition
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Word, Internet and E-Mail)
Physical Requirements
- The ability to escort disruptive individuals out of the building. Requires repetitive movement of hands and fingers for typing and/or writing. Frequent standing throughout an 8-hour shift, sitting, walking and climbing stairs, occasional stooping, kneeling or crouching and lifting up to 25 lbs. Ability to reach with hands and arms and perform audio and visual assessments, as required.
