Bethel School District is seeking qualified applicants for a Temporary 8-10 hours a week Native Student Program Support Coordinator for the Native Education/Title VI Program. This position is grant funded and the hourly rate is $20.00. This person selected for this role will not be an employee of the district but will enter into a professional services contract with the district.

Nature of Work

The Native Student Program Support Coordinator supports academic, cultural, and social activities that serve the Native student community. Through these events, this position provides opportunities for Native students to develop leadership skills, a stimulating learning environment, and cultural awareness. Ideal candidates will have a deep connection with the Native American Community, established connections with community organizations, and experience with youth empowerment/community organizations.


Essential Functions

  • Attend and support the Native Student groups in schools across the district.
  • Recommend and assist in the implementation of program goals and objectives.
  • Support partnerships with local community organizations and agencies to support and promote empowerment for Native students.
  • Collaborate with academic and support staff across the district to provide timely and proactive academic and culturally sustaining support for students.
  • Help support school-wide activities that promote equitable academic, social, and cultural outcomes.
  • Collaborate with on-site advisors at each school.
  • Partner and support the District Native Parent Committee
  • Support students within the Native Student program to make the most of their school experience.
  • Support students within the alliance to establish a network of individuals and opportunities that enhance their chances of meeting their goals.
  • Collaborate with school counselors and teachers to ensure students remain on track for graduation.
  • Engage families in regular conversations about district and school events that support student progress and personalized plans.
  • Maintains valid driver’s license.
  • Maintains regular and prompt attendance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Selection Factors

  • Knowledge and ability to work effectively with all students with particular attention to the physical, academic, emotional, and social needs of youth.
  • Ability to outreach and program for a diverse variety of student needs including language, academics, ability, income-level, familial status, gender, race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to plan, prioritize and coordinate programs.
  • Strong positive interpersonal skills, mediation skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy and sound judgment in confronting and resolving conflicts and complaints
  • Knowledge of the basic developmental stages of a child's learning process.
  • Ability to schedule the workload and meet the needs of the program.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to learn the duties of the position after a brief orientation period.
  • Ability to work with small groups and individual students in special programs.
  • Ability to interact positively with children and adults and observe individual student abilities.
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, students, administrators, parents, and co-workers.
  • Ability to maintain an appropriate and legal level of confidentiality regarding students, staff, and other individuals.
  • Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and prompt attendance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from a two-year college with major course work in education, community services, human services, recreation, public administration or related field; and at least two years of experience in recreational programming, social services, human services, community services or related areas; OR
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university in education, community services, human services, recreation, public administration or related field; OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.
  • Assessment and approval of variations is performed by the Human Resources Department.
