Title: Prevention and Outreach Coordinator
Program: Prevention, Education & Outreach Program
Hours: 40 hours per week; participates in shared on-call rotation (~1–2 overnights/week, one weekend/quarter) with flexible scheduling and built-in recovery time.
Supervisor: Community Programs Manager
Compensation: Starts at$25.90/hour $0.50/hour language differential (for bilingual applicants) and includes medical, dental, life insurance, and robust Personal Time Off policy.
Position Summary: The Prevention and Outreach Coordinator is responsible for advancing SASS’s community engagement and violence prevention efforts through education, outreach, and coalition involvement. This role coordinates SASS’s participation in the Lane County Violence Prevention Coalition (VPC) and other collaborative prevention initiatives in partnership with the Community Programs Manager, as funding allows and program needs evolve.
The Coordinator also supports community outreach, education, and awareness activities designed to increase access to survivor-centered services, promote prevention, and enhance SASS’s visibility as a key partner in Lane County’s coordinated response to sexual violence.
Specific Position Responsibilities:
Outreach, Education, & Communication
- Coordinate and deliver prevention-focused presentations, workshops, and events promoting awareness of sexual violence and available services.
- Lead SASS’s social media and public outreach strategy, including planning, content creation, posting, and engagement for SASS and the Lane County Violence Prevention Coalition (VPC)
- Design and create initiatives tailored to address the unique needs and challenges faced by young survivors of sexual violence, including but not limited to educational programs, social media outreach campaigns, and more.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with schools, colleges, youth organizations, and other community entities to promote awareness of SASS services and create opportunities for collaboration on outreach efforts.
- Provide confidential advocacy, individualized support services, and resource referrals to young survivors of intimate partner and sexual violence at partner schools and at partner locations such as, PEER Shelter.
- Participate in school and community events oriented toward youth, their parents, and caregivers.
Violence Prevention & Coalition Coordination
- Serve as SASS’s representative to the VPC, coordinating organizational participation in meetings, initiatives, website management, and community campaigns in partnership with the Community Programs Manager and Executive Director.
- Support communication, event planning, and shared messaging efforts within the coalition and its public-facing materials, ensuring SASS’s prevention work aligns with community-wide goals.
- Strengthen partnerships with schools, youth-serving organizations, and allied agencies to expand prevention education and outreach efforts across Lane County.
- Contribute to the development of trauma-informed and culturally responsive prevention materials and community education tools.
Survivor Advocacy:
- Provide advocacy and crisis intervention services, including safety planning, in-person support, accompaniment, transportation, answering crisis lines, etc.
- Participate in daytime direct service shifts and the after-hours on-call rotation.
- Participate in debriefing and direct service meetings.
General Responsibilities – With Other Staff
- Attend staff meetings, staff days and agency retreats.
- Serve as a visible spokesperson and advocate for SASS’s mission, services, and programs in the community.
- In collaboration with staff, facilitate SASS’s participation in public events such as Sexual Assault Awareness Month and/or Pride.
- Maintain and track program-related information as required for reporting, including client feedback forms and quarterly reports.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications – Required:
- Minimum of one year experience as an advocate (volunteer or paid) for individuals impacted by trauma, preferably youth.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to eliminating sexual and domestic violence and all forms of oppression.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to provide professional community presentations.
- Experience working with people with varying skills, abilities, life experiences and/or from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated skill in handling multiple tasks, tracking details and setting priority for accomplishing a variety of projects.
- An understanding of maintaining confidentiality when supporting survivors and/or their partners, friends and family.
- Ability to work flexible hours independently and with SASS staff as a team member.
- Strong computer technology skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to learn new technology systems and implement within scope of duties.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to respond in person to Eugene/Springfield locations, such as medical facilities for emergency advocacy, within 30 minutes or less (company car available).
- Must be able to pass a full criminal background check before hire
- Proof of successful completion of Oregon’s Advocacy Training requirements or ability to complete it within the first six months of employment.
- Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or ability to complete full vaccination prior to employment
Qualifications – Preferred
- Bilingual and/or bicultural
- Strong collaboration and facilitation skills, including experience coordinating coalition members, organizing meetings or joint initiatives, and fostering inclusive, goal-driven communication across multiple partner organizations.
- Experience working with youth, their school community (including teachers, administration, and coaches), and parents.
