Bethel AME Church is hiring a Director of Communications & Culture — a strategic and creative leader who shapes how Bethel shows up in words, visuals, experiences, and digital presence. This role strengthens internal culture, external visibility, and storytelling while building a volunteer communications ministry. You will steward the church’s communication identity, ensuring clarity, consistency, and cultural resonance across every platform and touchpoint.
What you'll do
- Lead Bethel’s overall communications and digital strategy across web, email, social media, and Sunday content.
- Own Bethel’s digital presence — website updates, digital messaging, social channels, online engagement, and digital-first storytelling.
- Lead and implement a unified communications & culture strategy aligned with Bethel’s mission and ministry priorities.
- Ensure a consistent visual and verbal identity across all communications and materials.
- Oversee Sunday Digital (slides, screens, service messaging) and keep Planning Center aligned.
- Support internal communications by helping staff and ministry leaders communicate clearly and consistently.
- Maintain Bethel’s voice across all platforms: clear, timely, culturally relevant.
- Partner with pastors, the COO, Media Arts, and Worship & Arts to coordinate messaging.
- Build and mentor a volunteer communications team (writers, storytellers, content creators).
- Manage social-first content development, analytics, and platform health.
- Coordinate photo, video, and graphic workflows with staff or contractors.
- Serve as the quality and consistency steward for all external-facing communications.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- 4 years leading communications, digital strategy, or culture/identity work in a church, nonprofit, or mission-driven environment.
- Excellent writing/editing and strong project management.
- Strong understanding of digital content production workflows (photo, video, graphics).
- Experience leading volunteers or creative teams.
- Tools: Planning Center, Mailchimp (or similar), Canva/Adobe Express, website CMS, social management tools.
