Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling to students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or social challenges.
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify students' needs and develop appropriate intervention plans.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to create a supportive learning environment for all students.
- Develop and implement programs that promote mental health awareness, resilience, and social-emotional learning.
- Facilitate crisis intervention and provide support during emergencies or traumatic events.
- Maintain accurate records of counseling sessions and student progress, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student progress and coordinate services.
- Advocate for students and families, connecting them with community resources and support services as needed.
- Provide training and professional development to staff on mental health topics and best practices for supporting students.
- Stay current with developments in the field of school psychology and social work to enhance service delivery.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field.
- Hold a Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Support Personnel Endorsement in School Psychologist (requires one-year internship) or School Social Worker.
- Previous experience working in a school setting or with children is preferred.
- Strong understanding of child development, mental health issues, and evidence-based intervention strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and staff.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the school community.
- Familiarity with relevant laws and regulations regarding student privacy and mental health services.
- CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.
