What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Control Engineer position at BestPack Packaging Systems?
BestPack is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer to support the design, development, and improvement of control systems for automated packaging equipment. This is a hands-on role focused on learning, supporting active projects, and building real-world experience in industrial automation.
You will work closely with senior engineers across R&D, production, and field service to support both new machine development and existing system improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the design and development of electrical control systems for packaging machinery
- Assist with PLC programming, debugging, and basic logic development (Allen-Bradley and Omron)
- Develop and modify HMI screens for machine operation and diagnostics
- Assist in integrating VFDs, servo systems, and other control components
- Create and update electrical schematics and documentation (AC/DC systems)
- Support R&D projects including testing, validation, and prototyping
- Troubleshoot electrical and control issues under guidance from senior engineers
- Collaborate with mechanical, production, and service teams
- Travel up to 20% for commissioning support, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting
Requirements:
- 1–3 years of experience in electrical engineering or industrial automation
- Basic experience with PLC programming (Allen-Bradley and/or Omron)
- Ability to read electrical schematics and drawings
- Understanding of AC/DC electrical systems
- Exposure to industrial components such as sensors, relays, VFDs, or servo systems
What We’re Looking For:
- Willingness to learn and grow in a hands-on engineering environment
- Strong work ethic and ability to support multiple projects
- Interest in working directly with machines, not just design work
- Ability to take direction and improve quickly
- Good troubleshooting mindset (even if still developing)
Why BestPack:
- Hands-on exposure to real automation systems (not just theory)
- Opportunity to grow into a Controls Engineer role
- Collaborative, team-oriented environment
- Full benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and PTO
