A hotel front desk (also called the reception desk) is the main point of contact for guests when they arrive at a hotel.
What the front desk does:
- Check-in & check-out guests
- Handle reservations and room assignments
- Answer questions about the hotel and local area
- Provide keys/key cards
- Assist with requests (extra towels, wake-up calls, etc.)
- Resolve issues or complaints
- Coordinate with housekeeping and maintenance
A night auditor typically does a mix of front desk accounting work:
- Check in late arrivals
- Handle guest requests overnight
- Answer phones and manage reservations
- Balance all guest accounts
- Verify room charges, payments, and credits
- Compare cash, card, and system totals
- Run end-of-day reports
- Roll the system date forward
- Post room charges and taxes
Skills Needed
- Attention to detail (very important)

- Ability to work independently overnight
