What are the responsibilities and job description for the Drayage Network Manager — LA/LB Gateway position at Berthline?
Berthline is looking for a Drayage Network Manager to build out and manage our carrier, transload, and warehouse partner network for import freight moving through the Los Angeles / Long Beach gateway.
We run active import files every week — container pickup, transload, palletizing, and local delivery. This role owns the partner side of that work: which trucking partners we work with, how appointments and empty returns get handled, and how freight hands off cleanly from terminal to warehouse to final delivery.
What you'll be doing:
- Developing and maintaining working relationships with drayage carriers, transload facilities, warehouses, and local delivery providers across the LA/LB market
- Verifying partner qualifications — operating authority, insurance certificates, and service coverage — and keeping vendor files current
- Coordinating terminal appointments, chassis availability, empty returns, and warehouse receiving windows across active shipments
- Tracking partner performance: on-time pickup, dry runs, demurrage and per diem exposure, damage and exception rates
- Maintaining rate references, lane notes, and vendor records to support quoting and dispatch coordination
- Working with account coordination on escalations — missed appointments, terminal delays, rolled containers, re-delivery, and accessorial issues
- Building repeatable handoff procedures between pickup, transload, warehouse, and delivery partners
What we're looking for:
- 3 years in drayage, port trucking, 3PL operations, transload, warehousing, or import logistics in the LA/LB market
- Knows the gateway cold — terminals, appointment systems, chassis situation, empty return rules, and where delays actually come from
- Existing working relationships with local drayage carriers, warehouse operators, transload facilities, or local delivery providers strongly preferred
- Organized with vendor files, rate notes, COIs, lane references, shipment updates, appointment records, and operating checklists
- Comfortable working with carriers, warehouses, customers, and internal account coordination
- Clear email communication and solid documentation habits
- Bilingual English / Chinese preferred
Transportation services are performed by properly licensed and insured motor carriers. This role manages partner coordination and does not require a CDL.
