Purpose

The Instructor Pilot/Check Pilot (IP/CP) is responsible for conducting ground, simulator, and aircraft-based training and evaluations in accordance with 14 CFR Part 135 regulations, Operations Specifications, and company-approved training programs. The position provides qualification, recurrent, and proficiency training for EMB-120 pilots, instructor pilots, and check pilots while ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides ground and flight training, mentoring, and evaluation of IP/CP candidates during initial qualification, recurrent, and requalification training programs in accordance with the company Pilot Training Program for the EMB-120.
  • Provides classroom, virtual classroom, simulator, and aircraft instruction, including training related to special capabilities such as Over-Water and International Operations.
  • Provides instruction on aircraft-specific and general aviation subjects for pilots assigned to the EMB-120 and other aircraft platforms as required.
  • Provides pilot flight instruction in flight training devices, simulators, and aircraft as assigned.
  • Administers oral, written, and practical testing of pilots in accordance with applicable CFRs, OpSpecs, the company training program, and appropriate testing standards.
  • Completes, with timeliness and accuracy, all required documentation following training and testing activities.
  • Assists the Director of Training (DOT) in researching, evaluating, and implementing new or revised training systems, policies, procedures, and techniques.
  • Identifies and documents standardization opportunities and serves as a liaison between the Chief Pilot and Director of Training to improve training consistency and operational effectiveness.
  • Provides subject matter expertise and serves as a liaison between operational teams, field units, and the Director of Training to support validation, implementation, and continuous improvement of training programs.
  • Assists in screening pilot candidates for line-of-business employment.
  • Augments revenue flight crews periodically.
  • Ability to travel for execution of training duties, including training at international training facilities.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Training.
Qualifications:

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Hold an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate (ATP) with Airplane Multi-Engine Land (AMEL) rating.
  • Maintain or be eligible to obtain and maintain a FAA First-Class Medical Certificate.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), FAA guidance, and Part 135 operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, interpersonal skills and professional demeanor.
  • Must possess valid Passport.

 

Preferred Experience

  • Prior flight instructor in multi-engine land airplane and instruments as CFII/MEI, FAA Certificated Air Carrier IP/CP, or equivalent military experience.
  • Hold EMB-120 type rating.
  • Possess a good working knowledge and experience with MS Office or Office 365 computer programs and/or database programs.
  • Prior experience as IP/CP particularly in FAR 135 or 121 air carriers, including simulator instruction.

  • Strong knowledge of Part 135 operations and FAA regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to effectively train, mentor, and evaluate professional pilots.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze operational performance and recommend training improvements.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with flight operations leadership.

 

Physical/Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to perform essential pilot duties, including prolonged periods of sitting, operating aircraft controls, and working in various environmental conditions. Must be able to safely perform required duties in aircraft, simulator, and operational environments.
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50lbs. as required.
  • Must reside or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of San Marcos Regional Airport, San Marcos, Texas.
  • Be able to travel to accomplish training and job duties, including international travel.
  • Be able to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments.
