SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAPROFESSIONAL (Personal Care Aide)
BERRIEN SPRINGS PUBLIC SCHOOLS
2 Positions Available - 1 at Sylvester Elementary and 1 at the Middle School
Qualifications:
1. High school graduate
2. Good written and verbal communication skills
3. Demonstrated technical skills and basic understanding of the educational process and the application of knowledge to assist students; relate to school age children, parents, staff and members of the community
4. Have demonstrated the ability to work effectively under the direction of others
Reports to: Building Principal/Special Education Director
Job Goal: Works with the special education and general education teachers to support students by providing personal care services to students who qualify.
Performance Responsibilities:
1. Provides assistance to any eligible student with a disability when the individual educational planning team (IEPT) determines that additional assistance is necessary to support the students behavior and personal care needs, including, but not limited to, potential assistance with toileting, feeding, dressing, and transferring needs, etc.
2. Implements accommodations and modifications related to classroom activities based on needs identified in the student’s IEP, supporting behavioral and social skill interventions
3. Maintains confidentiality and FERPA guidelines in regards to students within the school building
4. Completed Medicaid Personal Care Logs and behavior documentation as directed by special education teacher
5. Promotes social acceptance and interaction with general education peers when possible
6. Promotes student independence in learning activities, completing classroom assignments and interacting with peers
7. Support students through behavioral redirection and intervention and assists in implementing behavioral intervention strategies
8. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
9. Experience with coping strategies, de-escalation techniques, and/or TCI are preferred
10. Any additional duties as assigned
Start Date: August 24
Hours: 35 Hrs per week
Pay: $ 17.82 - $ 21.80 based on experience
