Job Description
Title: Director of Information Technology (IT)
Qualifications: Formal training with computer technology and networked information system certification.
Must possess a combination of technical expertise, strategic vision, and leadership skills to effectively lead the IT function and drive innovation within the organization.
Broad knowledge of instructional technology equipment and applications, on-line services, and technology resources.
Demonstrated ability to develop long-range plans for technology application in the schools and conduct related budget development and analysis.
Master’s Degree or Three years of IT Management Experience Required.
Reports to: School Business Administrator
Supervises: Technicians, IT Specialists, Network and System Administrators
Responsibilities: Manage network for six schools and central office.
Supervise technology department.
Ensure the confidentiality of technology accessible information.
Ensure compliance with federal laws for student online safety.
Work with administration, faculty, and staff to promote efficiency in the schools with the use of technology.
Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and coordination of the district’s Technology Plan.
Study, evaluate, and as appropriate, recommend to the superintendent the purchase of new technology materials, computer hardware, and other instructional technology tools.
Work cooperatively with the administration and other professional staff in planning and implementing the effective use of instructional technology.
Maintain the district’s student information system.
Maintain an inventory of the district’s computer equipment and a log of equipment maintenance activities.
Assist in the development and coordination of the technology budget.
Manage the distribution of computer hardware and supplies
Communicate with teachers, the board and community members regarding the value of incorporating technology into the education process.
Promote and provide assistance to teachers and curriculum committees in the integration of technology into all curriculum resources.
Assist in representing the district’s computer education program to the public through workshops and presentations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Technology Skills: Infrastructure Management: Proficiency in overseeing and managing complex IT infrastructures including servers, networks, storage systems, and data centers. Experience with cloud platforms is highly desirable.
Cybersecurity: Demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing robust cybersecurity strategies to safeguard organizational assets and data. Knowledge of industry standards, compliance requirements, and security best practices is essential.
Enterprise Software: Extensive experience in selecting, implementing, and optimizing enterprise software solutions such as ERP, SIS, and HRIS systems. Familiarity with leading vendors and platforms is required.
Networking and Telecommunications: Strong understanding of networking principles, protocols, and technologies including LAN, WAN, VPN, and VoIP. Experience with network design, configuration, and troubleshooting is necessary.
Data Management and Analytics: Proficient in data management techniques, including data governance, data integration, and data warehousing. Experience with analytics tools and techniques for deriving insights from large datasets is preferred.
Virtualization and Cloud Computing: In-depth knowledge of virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud computing concepts. Experience with hybrid and multi-cloud environments is advantageous.
IT Project Management: Proven track record in leading and managing IT projects from initiation to completion.
IT Governance and Compliance: Experience in establishing IT governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and alignment with organizational objectives.
Emerging Technologies: Awareness of emerging technologies and trends in the IT industry, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, blockchain, and Internet of Things (IoT). Ability to assess their potential impact and relevance to the organization.
Vendor Management: Proven ability to effectively manage vendor relationships, negotiate contracts, and oversee service level agreements (SLAs) to ensure optimal performance and value for the organization.
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning: Knowledge of disaster recovery principles and methodologies, including backup and recovery strategies, as well as business continuity planning to minimize downtime and ensure resilience.
Terms of Employment: 12 Month Contract. Salary and Benefits as determined by the Board of Education and any applicable and collective negotiations agreement
