What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estate Planning Paralegal — Sarasota, FL position at Berlin Patten Ebling, PLLC?
Why this role
This isn't a typical paralegal position. At BPE, senior paralegals draft sophisticated trust and estate planning documents, own their case files, and work shoulder-to-shoulder with attorneys on complex matters. We pay well above market because we hire paralegals who can operate like one—and we give them the autonomy to do so.
What you'll do
Draft trusts, wills, and advanced estate planning documents for attorney review. Manage your own case files, deadlines, and docketing from intake through execution. Communicate directly with clients to gather information and keep them informed. Handle e-filing, notarization, scheduling, and the administrative work that keeps matters moving. Participate in weekly case management meetings and collaborate closely with attorneys and support staff.
What we're looking for
You bring 5 years of Florida estate planning experience and a track record of drafting trusts independently — not just assembling forms. You're highly organized, communicate clearly, and manage your time without needing to be chased. You're proficient with Wealth Counsel and/or Westlaw Form Builder, and comfortable in Clio Manage or similar case management platforms.
Strongly preferred: Paralegal certification or advanced education, and bilingual (English/Spanish) ability.
What we offer
Send your resume and a brief note about the most complex trust or estate matter you've drafted to Jennifer Youngblood, HR Director at jyoungblood@berlinpatten.com. We review applications on a rolling basis and aim to respond within a week.
