Job Summary
Berkshire School seeks a full-time, calendar-year, hourly, non-exempt Maintenance Trade Technician to support the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the School's 600 acre campus. This position performs a variety of general maintenance, repair, grounds, and event support duties to help maintain a safe, attractive, and functional campus environment. Responsibilities vary based on seasonal demands, campus priorities, and operational needs and are assigned by the Trades Manager.
Essential Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and repairs to campus buildings, equipment, and grounds.
- Complete routine preventive maintenance and respond to work orders in a timely manner.
- Basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs as appropriate.
- Perform interior and exterior maintenance, including patching, painting, replacing fixtures, and minor repairs.
- Operate and maintain hand and power tools and other maintenance equipment safely.
- Assist with snow and ice removal, including shoveling, sanding, salting, and operating snow removal equipment.
- Set up and break down furniture, equipment, and facilities for campus events and activities.
- Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and materials throughout campus.
- Identify maintenance concerns and report issues requiring specialized repair.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Respond to emergency maintenance situations as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to successfully complete required background checks.
- Experience in building maintenance, facilities maintenance, construction trades, or a related field preferred.
- Working knowledge of general maintenance practices, tools, and equipment.
- Ability to operate maintenance vehicles and equipment safely.
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to use email and a computerized work order system.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and adapt to changing campus needs.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments and weather conditions.
- Ability to frequently stand, walk, climb ladders and stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, balance, and work at varying heights.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally more with assistance or appropriate equipment.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, maintenance equipment, and motor vehicles safely.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, on ladders, scaffolding, rooftops, and uneven terrain when required.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions involving the hands, wrists, and arms.
- Ability to work safely around cleaning products, paints, solvents, dust, noise, and other materials commonly encountered in facilities maintenance.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations, including after-hours, weekends, or during inclement weather, as needed.
