What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Bill Specialist (Workers Compensation) position at Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies?
Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Workers Compensation Division, has an immediate need for a Medical Bill Specialist in its Medical Bill Review team! This individual processes and reviews medical bills, ensuring the completeness of the bill and supporting documentation prior to review by a Medical Bill Analyst.
\n- Initiates the bill review process and accurately identifies data from claim information.
- Efficiently reviews medical bills and reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Identifies and enforces jurisdictional regulatory billing standards and Company standards.
- Examines bills for legibility and takes the appropriate action to ensure the accuracy of documentation.
- Issues the appropriate correspondence to billing entities in accordance with Company and regulatory standards.
- Proactively communicates to the Medical Bill Review Supervisor any problems or issues that may adversely impact a client or the Company.
- Ensures work is performed in accordance with Company standards, training, and supervisory direction.
- Provides administrative support and additional duties as directed.
- Fosters a positive and close working relationship with other Company staff, including Adjusting staff, other Medical Management staff, the Special Investigations Unit, Legal, Lien Unit, Customer Care and Client Services.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent certificate required.
- Experience: A minimum of six months of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read and understand basic documents, including medical records, medical bills, claim notes, and claim data fields. Ability to calculate figures and amounts, such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, sums, differences, products and volumes.
- Computer Skills: Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office/365 applications and become proficient in proprietary and vendor software programs.
